Coffee house golden jubilee
Indian Coffee Houses are all set to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their formation and their employees are in the midst of preparations for turning the golden jubilee into a major event. It was late Communist leader A.K. Gopalan who inaugurated the first Indian Coffee House in the State in Thrissur on March 7, 1958, under the Indian Coffee Workers’ Co-operative Society Ltd. The first Coffee House under the Kannur unit of the society was started at Thalassery on Au
gust 7, 1958. The jubilee fete would start by January next year.
The Indian Coffee House has become a unique institution that stands out among the co-operative, industrial and labour sectors. The celebration coincides with the birth centenary of AKG.
