Making use of facilities
The opinion that available facilities are not being put to proper use at the Beach (General Hospital) seems to be true to a certain extent, as an incident on Monday revealed. When Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy arrived for a meeting to discuss the development of the hospital it was dusk. Power went off and those present had to sit in total darkness for a few minutes.
It was then that Mayor M. Bhaskaran came out with the revelation that a generator had been bought for the hospital more than three years back.
Patients had been denied the facility.
Later, during discussions, it emerged that the generator was in the process of being installed. It had taken over three years to get the equipment operational!
Another opinion that emerged was that the number of doctors at the Beach Hospital was not far below the required capacity considering that the Taluk Hospitals with 200 to 300 patients has only 11 doctors. The Beach Hospital that catered to 450 in-patients has 45 regular doctors and one doctor employed on contract basis.
