Celebrating Deepavali

The city is resounding with the crackle of fireworks. With Deepavali around the corner, traders are making a killing selling fire crackers. Some citizens have ordered firecrackers at ‘wholesale rates’ from Sivakasi. There is also much demand for earthen lamps, the traditional symbol of Deepavali. Sweet makers in the city are selling Deepavali delicacies like ‘hot cakes.’
