State flayed for withdrawing cases

Correspondent

Kakinada: Beeraka Chandrasekhar, former municipal chairman, has alleged that the Sate Government has violated norms while withdrawing the criminal cases filed by him in the capacity of the civic chief in April 2004.

Addressing newsmen here on Tuesday, he said he was aghast to know that the Government had ordered withdrawal of the two criminal cases against the accused, just before trial of the cases was to commence. “It is nothing but mockery of the judiciary and gross misuse of power. The accused, including the present MLA, had exerted pressure and influenced the top leaders and officials to get the cases withdrawn,” he said . He said while he was busy holding discussions with the officials in his chamber as the municipal chairman, a group of 20 people led by the present MLA had barged into his room and ransacked the furniture besides assaulting him. Later another group of 10 people had attacked his residence and the hospital complex causing damage to the property. Basing on his complaint, he said, the police had filed two criminal cases against the accused.

But after two years, he said, the accused using their political influence, had managed in getting the cases withdrawn by a special GO.
