BHUBANESWAR: After a fortnight of sunny days, coastal Orissa experienced drizzles throughout the day on Tuesday under the influence of a well-marked low pressure area over Bay of Bengal.

“Monday’s well-marked low pressure over coast of south Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu and adjoining west central bay persists,” Bhubaneswar Meteorological centre said here.

Air trough

It said: “associated cyclonic circulation extended up to 4.5 km above sea level and upper air trough also extended from centre of well-marked low to Gangetic West Bengal across the coastal Andhra Pradesh and coastal Orissa.”

“Rain or thundershowers are likely at many places over coastal Orissa and at a few places over interior Orissa during next 48 hours,” the sources said.

Change in weather

Meanwhile, the change in weather due to low pressure area brought nippy in the air and declared arrival of winter.

Though, cold was being felt late night for last few days, several people switched to winter dresses on Tuesday evening. Meanwhile, reports said intermittent rain was experienced in most parts of the coastal villages.

Owing to heavy rain in Andhra Pradesh and water-logging between Gudur and Vijaywada rail sector of South Central Railway, many trains running through East Coast Railway (ECR) jurisdiction were cancelled while several others were running late.

Howrah-Chennai mail, scheduled to leave Howrah on Tuesday, was cancelled since the coach did not reach Howrah due to late running, ECR said in a release.
