Samples of the consignment sent for testing PUDUCHERRY: The Civil Supplies Department and the Food Cell wing of the territorial police on Monday started an inquiry into several tonnes of rice found in wagons at the Puducherry Railway Station. Officials in the department said they had sent samples for testing to ascertain whether the rice was purchased from the open market or diverted from Public Distribution System outlets. Without disclosing the number of wagons that reached the station or where the samples were sent for testing, Deputy Director of Civil Supplies Vallavan said, “We came to know that some wagons with rice have come to the station. We have detained the wagons and further inquiry will be carried out on the basis of the report received from the lab.” Sources in the Food Cell said the consignment came from a private company in Thiruvandarkoil and it was meant for distribution in Andhra Pradesh.
