Governor to open knowledge service
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: The Foundation for the Revitalisation for Local Health Traditions (FRLHT) is launching the Community Knowledge Service (CKS) Asia, here on October 31.
Governor Rameshwar Thakur will inaugurate the programme and M.S. Swaminathan, chairman of the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, will offer concluding remarks through video conference. The programme includes a dialogue on Policy Perspectives for Promotion of Community Knowledge for Sustainable Development.
G. Hariramamurthi, Senior Programme Officer, FRLHT, who is the chairman of Regional Steering Committee, Community Knowledge Service Asia, said that this programme was planned to recognise and honour the outstanding community efforts to reduce poverty through the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources.
The current CKS Asia collaborators include the Foundation of Revitalisation of Local Health Traditions, India; UNDP Equator Initiative; Ecoagriculture Partners; M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, India; Kalinga Mission for Indigenous Children and Youth Development Inc., and ICRAF, Philippines.
Based on the rationale that local communities demonstrate unique capacity to jointly address the challenges of biodiversity, rural health and livelihood improvement, the event of October 31 marks the culmination of an 18-month planning process to design and implement the Community Knowledge Service Asia, he said.
