SHIMOGA: The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Gajanur has won both the fourth National Level Computer Literacy Excellence Award for School 2005 and the State Level Computer literacy Excellence Award for School 2005. One Navodaya Vidyalaya is selected from every State for the State Level Computer Literacy Award which carries a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 1.5 lakh and one vidyalaya is selected for the National Level Computer Literacy Excellence Award from among the vidyalayas selected from various States. The national level award carries a trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 7 lakh. Principal of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya P. Ravi received the national and the state-level awards from the Union Minister for Information Technology A. Raja and Minister of State for Information Technology Shakeel Ahmed at a function in New Delhi on October 18. K. Rajkumar, a teacher, represented the school at the function. The Union Government has instituted the awards to create interest among schoolchildren in computer education. It has also proposed to improve the teaching level in computer education by encouraging teachers to take up higher study and research.
