With a bite: Stray dogs on the Beach Road in Visakhapatnam. —
VISAKHAPATNAM: For morning/evening walkers, the activity is not only a physical exercise but a respite from the usual preoccupations as the serenity of the time will make them reflective.
With quiet all around and minus the hustle and bustle of the later part of the day, morning walk lifts one’s spirits.
But in several parts of the city there is no lack of company for walkers. Stray dogs that seem to be omnipresent trail walkers.
For people who get up early to enjoy the nip in the air or the whiff of freshness are disturbed by the presence of dogs. The pace (of the walk) becomes uneven. The dogs’ presence particularly on the Beach Road is caused by the garbage thrown and also due to presence of a number of mobile food stalls.
For women taking time off their busy schedule at home, their presence is particularly irritating.
Though it is advisable to use a walking track and some parks have it. But some feel walking along the thoroughfares has its own novelty. The Beach Road, however, is a privilege to people living in the vicinity. Some also go there by a vehicle and take a walk.
While the dogs may be harmless, their presence can’t be wished away.
After all it’s man’s best friend. Being wary and walking the dog seems to be the only option.
