Ragging victim identifies seniors

Staff Reporter

Thrissur: Manu, 18, alleged victim in a case of ragging in Kerala Agricultural University’s College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, identified the accused on Tuesday. He was shown college records containing photos of students to identify the accused.

The police said that Praveen P. Varghese, M. R. Arun Raj, Ebin B. Mathews, R. Asim and Ajaz Mohammed were the students identified. On October 23, the police had registered a case against five persons on the basis of a statement by Manu, a first year student of the college, that he was ragged by seniors.

Hospitalised

Manu was admitted with wrist injuries to a private hospital here on October 22. The police said he had attempted suicide by slashing his wrist. Manu arrived at the college on Tuesday, accompanied by activists of the Vaikuntaswamy Dharma Pracharana Sabha and anti-ragging campaigners.

They staged a dharna in front of the Dean’s office demanding arrest of the accused and steps to ensure Manu’s safety.
