Letters to the Editor
This refers to the debate on the introduction of sex education in elementary and secondary schools, raging across the country. The idea of imparting sex education to children at a tender age, when they do not even know what sex is, is unwise. It is ridiculous to think of discussing sex-related issues in open classrooms. The argument that sex education is necessary to educate children on the ill-effects of HIV/AIDS is misplaced. In fact, sex education will distract students who will become more curious to learn about a subject they are not supposed to know at a tender age. Schools are temples of education. Their sanctity should not be polluted by introducing sex in the curriculum. The need of the hour is education in moral values. Himmatmal Mardia, Chennai
