Young World Quiz takes off today

BANGALORE: The regional finals of the multi-city The Hindu Young World Quiz will be held here on Wednesday. And the battleground is the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Bhavan on Millers Road.

Billed as “the most eagerly looked forward to event” for schoolchildren, the annual quiz attracts talented young minds from across the State.

In Bangalore, over 400 teams from 150 schools have registered for the event. All the participating teams have to report at the venue by 1.15 p.m. The preliminary written round starts at 2 p.m. to select the six teams for the regional finals. The winning team from Bangalore will participate in the All India Final in Chennai on December 3. The Hindu will meet the cost of travel, board and lodging of each finalist and for one accompanying parent or teacher.

Amity University is the title sponsor, while Lotte Boopro Liquid Filled Bubble Gum and Tara Talcum Powder are the associate sponsors of the event.

Reynolds, Vizag Steel Plant, State Bank of Travancore, Cycle Brand Agarbathis, Penguin, Encyclopaedia Britannica, Malaysia Tourism and Extramarks.com are the national sponsors.

Wonderla, K.S. Infosystems, Prism Books and British Library are the regional sponsors.Dabur Real Fruit Juice is the beverage sponsor, while the event is managed by Quizwalahs.

Quizmaster V.V. Ramanan will host the show.

Regional winners will be richer by Rs. 8,000, while the teams finishing second and third will take home Rs. 6,000 and Rs. 4,000 respectively, apart from gift hampers from various sponsors.
