Rajashri Praharaj BHUBANESWAR: City-based budding Odissi dancer Rajashri Praharaj has been invited to perform in the two-day Deepavali festival in New York starting on November 2 that will showcase the veteran and promising classical singers and dancers from India. A senior student of Srjan dance institution, she is being trained under Ratikant Mohapatra. Being hosted by Vedic Heritage Inc. in association with Acharya Viswanath Dev Sarma Art Foundation, both US-based organisations promoting Indian classical arts in the West, the event will feature stalwarts like vocalist Pandit Jasraj, flutist Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Ghatam exponent Viku Vinayak, Hindustani vocalist Pandit Madhup Mudgal and young Kathak dancer Nivedita Hornekar, among others. The foundation has the mission of encouraging interest in the classical arts and it organises an annual event in India to select young performing artistes below the age of 25 through competitions. The winners of the competitions are invited to perform in New York, the Foundation’s release said and added that Rajashri and Nivedita were the winners this year.
