Eco-Budget gets an extension of one year

German firm to fund and provide technical help

Water supply will be next priority


GUNTUR: The Eco-Budget programme, a cooperation between Bologna city in Italy and Guntur, which came to an end this month, has got an extension of one more year with German company Deutsche Gesellschaft Fur Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH, agreeing to provide technical assistance and fund activities.

The German company GTZ has evinced interest in the solid waste management aspect of the city and their representatives would visit the city soon, said Mayor Kanna Nagaraju after return from a meeting with its representatives in New Delhi during the past couple of days.

Solid waste management would be further streamlined with the experience gained so far and further inputs and technical assistance from the GTZ, he said.

Water supply would be the next priority by plugging the leaks and reducing the wastage to as minimum as possible to improve the quality of supply alongside.

While the company proposes to assist five or six cities in the country, Guntur would receive the maximum focus and investment as it was impressed by the work under the European Union-funded Eco-budget programme and was keen on continuing that for betterment of the city living conditions.

Focus on slums

Meanwhile, infrastructure in the city wherever housing programme has been taken up would be improved with a Rs.20-crore assistance approved under the Integrated Housing and Slum Development project. Some 40 Slums in the city would benefit, he said. Project Commissioner gave his nod for the assistance during a programme attended by Municipal Commissioner Siddhartha Jain and Mayor Kanna Nagaraju on Monday.
