Woman journalist beaten up

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: A young woman reporter with The Hindu was beaten up by two as-yet-unidentified men on a motorbike on Convent Road on Monday evening.

Ayesha Matthan, reporter with MetroPlus, was walking down on Convent Road when the men illegally rode the motorbike on the footpath behind her.

When they asked her to move out of the way, she refused and told them to get off the footpath. An altercation followed after which they got off the bike pushed her around and beat her.

Although the road was choked with traffic and full of curious onlookers, nobody intervened. In the melee, the pillion rider ran away. The rider threatened her some more before wheeling his bike away from the scene.

On a complaint by Ms. Matthan, the Ashoknagar police have registered a case. Efforts are on to trace the two men, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Ulsoor Gate) B.B. Ashok Kumar said.
