Doctors vanish from medical camp

HYDERABAD: The GHMC’s efforts to provide succour to the physically challenged children through its special medical camps is getting affected due to vanishing acts of doctors deputed for the task.

The Corporation, which is getting into social service mode with programmes to help the elderly and the disabled of late, held two medical camps for the disabled children recently with the last one held at its Secunderabad swimming pool on Saturday.

Although 1,500 children thronged the venue along with their parents, doctors deputed from the hospitals of Gandhi, Sarojini Devi and King Koti were alleged to have “vanished” after spending a few hours at the camp.

Complaints lodged

Totally aghast at the turn of events, Additional Commissioner G. Vani Mohan has written to all the Superintendents of the three hospitals complaining about the disappearance of the doctors. She charged them of leaving the camp after lunch without informing any of the officials present.

She said two more camps are scheduled to be held next month including one in the old city.

Thereafter, the process of taking up corrective surgeries and issuing wheelchairs, artificial foot and other aids will be taken up with the assistance of voluntary organisations.
