‘Stop harassing innocents’

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Civil rights activists on Tuesday demanded that the Government stop illegal detention and torture of youth belonging to the Muslim minority community and misleading people by saying 26 persons were arrested in the case pertaining to the twin bomb blasts.

At a press conference, Lateef Mohd. Khan of Civil Liberties Monitoring Committee, Balagopal of Human Rights Forum and Suresh Kumar of Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee demanded that Government stop releasing false information about the investigation. They were referring to the Home Minister K. Jana Reddy’s recent statements that 26 youth were arrested in the case.

They said that law enforcement agencies could focus efforts on a bonafide investigation and bring the real perpetrators to book.
