Four militants killed in police encounter

Shillong: Four militants of the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) were killed and two policemen injured in a shootout in the heart of the city tonight.

The encounter took place at Cleave Colony at around 9 pm, Director General of Police B K Dey Sawian told PTI.

On a tip-off about the presence of a group of HNLC militants in the city, the police launched a combing operation. The militants, who were travelling in a car, fired at the policemen . The police retaliated by opening fire, killing four HNLC men on the spot, the DGP said. — PTI
