HYDERABAD: St. Andrew’s High School won the fourth Dr. John de Souza inter-schools football tournament defeating St. Patrick’s High School 2-0 here on Tuesday. St. Andrew’s went ahead Ravikanth chested a good cross from the right flank by Arbaaz and slotting the ball into the right corner of the goal in the eighth minute. Within 10 minutes, Arbaaz taking advantage off a defence lapse tapped the ball into the net. Better showIn the second session, St. Patrick’s put up a much better showing and even came close to scoring when Nehal ran down the right flank in a solo effort. But he sent in a feeble kick straight into the hands of the custodian. Patrick’s forwards Avaneesh, Nehal and Herbert essayed dangerous moves towards the end but the St. Andrew’s’ defence stood still. Clinton Amalraj of St. Andrew’s was named ‘player of the tournament’ while his teammate Azhar ‘best defender’ of the final. Cash prizes worth about Rs. 25,000 were given away to the winner, runner-up and the losing semifinalists. AOC strugglesAOC Centre recorded a hard-fought 3-2 win over Hyderabad Sporting in the SAAP Premier League football tournament at Gymkhana Grounds here. R.P. Dhule put the Armymen ahead in the 16th minute. Sporting scored the equaliser through Abdul Khader in the 40th minute. Just before the break, AOC took the lead again thanks to Dhule’s second goal of the match. In the second session, Sporting rallied well and levelled through Khader. But Gokul struck the winner for AOC in the 58th minute. In another match, SAI (Kurnool) scored a solitary goal win over AG (Andhra Pradesh) with Sekhar heading a perfect cross from Kareem in the 56th minute. AP Police in semifinalsAndhra Pradesh Police scored a 2-1 win over Youth League to enter the semifinal of the GHMC annual hockey championship here. For the winners, Suri Babu and Suresh were the scorers while George Logun reduced the margin. In another quarterfinal AOC defeated SAI Juniors 3-0 with Manoj Singh, Satyanarayana and Mateen scoring. Srinivas to leadSrinivas Reddy will lead South Central Railway team in the 43rd all-India Railway ball badminton championship to be held at RRC Grounds from October 31 to November 2. The team: Srinvias Reddy (capt), K. Sashi Kumar, K. Nanda Kumar, M. Ashok Kumar, N. Ramana Murthy, Samdhani Basha, S. Ravi Kumar and A. Srinivas. Coach: V.V. Ramana. Kabaddi selectionsThe 34th Junior inter-district kabaddi championship for boys and girls (under-19 years) will be held at BC High School (Nagarjunasagar) from November 10 to 12. The Hyderabad District Kabaddi Association will organise selection trials at Kachiguda Junior College on November 2 from 4.00 p.m. to pick the district team for the above meet.
