VIJAYAWADA: Vizag District emerged the overall champion with 91 points in athletics in the 33rd AP State women’s sports festival (athletics and handball), which concluded here on Tuesday. Krishna and Chittoor took the second and third spots with 46 and 38 points respectively. In the handball final, West Godavari defeated Guntur 17-12. Earlier, in the semifinals, Guntur and West Godavari registered victories defeating Khammam and Warangal respectively. The results (finals): Athletics: 3000m: 1. A. Saritha (Chittoor) 11:40.6s, 2. R. Rajya Lakshmi (Hyd), 3. S. Revathi (Chittoor). Shot put: 1. K. Anitha Devi (Krishna) 9.74m, 2. S. Jagadeeswari (Vizag), 3. G. Radhika (Mahaboobnagar). 4x400m relay: 1 Visakhapatnam 4:25.2s, 2. Nellore, 3. Chittoor. Team championship: 1. Visakhapatnam 91 points, 2. Krishna 46, 3. Chittoor 38. Handball: West Godavari bt Guntur 17-12; Semifinals: Guntur bt Khammam 12-6; West Godavari bt Warangal 18-7. Match postponedVIJAYAWADA: Inclement weather played spoilsport as the South-West Zone inter-university handball tournament for men, scheduled to be inaugurated at the Acharya Nagarjuna University in Guntur on Tuesday, has been postponed to Wednesday.
