Vivek Shokeen advances

NEW DELHI: Vivek Shokeen fought his way past qualifier Igor Shelyakin of Uzbekistan 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-2 in the first round of the $10,000 ITF Futures tournament at Lahore on Tuesday.

Sunil Kumar, divij Sharan, Ashwin Vijayaraghavan and Yannick Nelord also made the pre-quarterfinals of singles, while the recently crowned national champion Ashutosh Singh went down to Hyun-Soo Lim of Korea in straight sets.

Ashutosh, however, made it to the doubles semifinals along with Divij Sharan. The Indian duo will take on Pakistan Davis Cupper Aqeel Khan and his Indian partner Sunil Kumar in the semifinals.

Ashwin Vijayaraghavan had done well last week in Pakistan by making the singles quarterfinals and the doubles semifinals.
