State junior meet from November 2

CHENNAI: The Chennai District Athletics Association will conduct the 21st Tamil Nadu State junior (under-14, 16, 18 and 20 boys and girls) meet at the SDAT-Nehru Stadium here from November 2 to 4.

More than 3000 athletes will be taking part in the Open meet.

And for the first time Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu will field a team comprising those from the Sports Hostel and those from the sprints and jumps academy, throws academy, middle and long distance academy, said W.I. Davaram, President, Tamil Nadu Athletics Association, at a media briefing here on Tuesday.

The athletes who perform well will be selected for the National junior championship to be held at Vijayawada from November 24 to 27.

This is the first time the junior State meet is held at the Nehru Stadium.

Davaram added that this would be the last meet at the Nehru Stadium before the Stadium closes for relaying the new synthetic track. It will take three months for the track to be re-laid, said Davaram.

Meanwhile, fifteen athletes (10 boys and 5 girls) from Tamil Nadu will take part in the South Asian junior championship to be held in Colombo on November 29 and 30. The 15 will participate in the State junior meet too.

The squad : Boys: A. Prem Kumar, J. Premanand, V. Deepan Kumar, C. Arivoli, A. Karthikeyan, C. Nichil Chittarasu, D. Deepak Rathina, Hemant Kirulkar, L. Prakash and T. Balamurugan.

Girls: A. Jessy, G. Gayathri, V. Hani, K. Anandhi and J. Hemashree.
