Bar on recovery of fish workers’ loans

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to declare a moratorium on recovery of loans taken by fish workers. This is pending enactment of the Kerala Fishermen Debt Relief Commission Bill.
Briefing the media on the Cabinet decisions, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said the moratorium would cover loans taken from institutions and individuals. It will be in force for six months or until the debt relief law comes into effect.
The Chief Minister said 32 government high schools in Malabar would be upgraded as higher secondary schools. Besides, 291 additional batches will be sanctioned in 200 schools. Vocational higher secondary courses will be started in 15 high schools along with an addition of 72 batches in various schools.
