Puducherry
Expressing views: Children participating in the painting competition in Puducherry. PUDUCHERRY: You could almost hear the scratching of crayons on paper as children from various schools sat hunched over their drawings and paintings at a competition organised by the Vanchinathan Mandram and Thozhiar Magalir Mandram. The competition, conducted at N.T. Mahal in Ellaipillaichavady on Saturday, was organised to mark the 53rd anniversary of the defacto transfer of Puducherry from French rule. As many as 100 students, mostly from government schools, took part in the competition. For children from LKG to Standard V the topics included things that brought joy to them, naturally beautiful Puducherry and Deepavali. The drawings of children playing in parks brought out their innocence. For bigger children the topics stressed the need for children to go to school, misuse of mobile phones, commercialisation of education, and violence against children.
