Temple body takes out march to SP office

Staff Reporter

Failure to book culprits of temple door burning alleged

IN PROTEST: Hindu Aikya Vedi activists staging a dharna in front of the District Police Superintendent’s office in Malappuram on Wednesday in protest against the failure of the police in arresting those responsible for the burning of Tali Mahadeva Temple at Angadipuram.

MALAPPURAM: The Angadipuram Tali Mahadeva Temple Bhaktajana Karma Samiti took out a march to the District Police Superintendent’s office here on Wednesday in protest against the failure of the police in booking those responsible for the burning of the Tali temple door about two months ago.

The protest march, planned two weeks ago, had been postponed following an assurance from District Collector Sumana N. Menon that the culprits would be booked before October 30.

The Karma Samiti activists accused the police of not trying their best in investigating the case.

Valsan Thillankeri, State karyadarsi of the Hindu Aikya Vedi, inaugurated the march. N.M. Kadamban Namboothiripad, president of the Karma Samiti, an umbrella body of various Hindu organisations, presided over the function.

The protesters met Police Superintendent P. Vijayan in his office and gave a memorandum demanding speedy arrest of the culprits.

A part of the huge front door of the Tali temple at Angadipuram was found burnt in the wee hours of August 31. All sections of the society, irrespective of religion, condemned the incident, terming it a deliberate attempt to destroy peace and religious harmony in the district. The police formed a special team under Dy.S.P. M.R. Maniyan and launched an investigation.

The police team was extraordinarily cautious in revealing the details of the investigation because of the sensitivity of the case.
