MALAPPURAM: The State School Cooking Workers’ Confederation has protested against non-payment of wages. The confederation said the government had not paid the cooks though the schools reopened five months ago. Thousands of cooks were yet to receive their wages although some headmasters and headmistresses had collected the money from the government, said Haridas Pulpetta, State president of the confederation. Mr. Pulpetta said the State government was trying to scuttle the mid-day meal programme offered by the Central government in high schools. Many high schools in the State were yet to implement the scheme, he said.
