End to parking woes soon

Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) at its meeting on Wednesday gave its assent to Public Private Partnership for Parking (PPPP), an innovative strategy to end parking chaos in the city.

The PPPP was envisaged in view of spurt in malls and big shopping complexes in the city which was causing a number of parking nuisances, BMC Commissioner Aparajita Sarangi said.

As part of the strategy, the civic body would identify 50 prospective parking lots where NGOs, youth clubs and volunteers would be involved for regulating vehicles, Ms. Sarangi said. She said the corporation finalised modalities of auctioning those parking lots to private individuals and organisations. “The parking lots would be evaluated on the basis of number of vehicles being parked daily. Accordingly, our official will fix a value which would be equally shared between corporation and those who would be in charge,” BMC Commissioner said.
