Chitradurga: Rich tributes were paid to the former Primer Minister Indira Gandhi on her 23rd death anniversary on Wednesday.

Floral tributes were paid to Indira Gandhi at a special programme organised at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here. The day is observed as National Integrity and National Resolution Day. The programme began with a recital of verses from religious scriptures by students of St. Joseph’s school. The contribution of Indira Gandhi to the nation was recalled.

Addressing the gathering, Shivamurthy Murugha Swamiji of the Murugharajendra Math said in the post-Independence period, the nation had been facing more threat from internal forces, rather than from outside. He said India was quite capable of dealing with its external enemies, but felt that internal forces were far more dangerous.

Muslim religious leader Sirkhazi recalled the contribution of Indira Gandhi for the uplift of the poor. Zilla panchayat chief executive officer H.P. Prakash administered an oath to the gathering to strive to protect the unity and integrity of the nation.
