ANANTAPUR: Students pursuing post-graduate degree courses in Sri Krishnadevaraya University (SKU) here have hardened their stand on the eligibility criteria of attendance for the semester examinations commencing from November 1. Several students under the aegis of Joint Action Committee of Students’ Unions launched an indefinite hunger strike on the university campus on Wednesday, demanding postponement of the semester examinations and scrapping the eligibility criteria for examinations. Students, particularly those who have negligible or no attendance, have gone on path of agitation for the last 15 days seeking complete relaxation of the criteria. Against the university norm that only the students with a minimum of 75 per cent attendance be allowed to appear for the examinations the students have been demanding scrapping the norm to allow all students, even with zero attendance, to take examinations. AISF, NSUI, TNSF, SC, ST, BC and Minorities’ Students Union have joined hands to oppose the varsity decision. The students would try to obstruct the semester examinations commencing on Thursday by forcing boycott. Besides, a delegation would also go to Hyderabad to meet the Governor and Chief Minister to represent the matter. In all, 134 students have been declared ineligible by the university authorities.
