HALIA (NALGONDA DT): The stage is set for a unique meeting of poets, dalit leaders and social activists of Rayalaseema and Andhra regions here on Thursday. The issue to be debated at the meeting, christened as ‘Seemandhrula Telanganam’ will be ‘the need of carving out a separate State for the Telangana region’. “Our aim is to know the feelings of the prominent personalities from the Rayalaseema and Andhra regions. They would give their impressions on the movement and the backwardness of the region,” Venepalli Pandu Ranga Rao, organizer of the meet under the banner of Telangana Matti Manushulu (people made of clay), told The Hindu on Wednesday. Kakarala, Tripuraneni Maharathi, Haribabu, Mallela Venkat Rao, Krupakar Madiga, K. Siva Reddy, Sikhamani, Y. S. Krishneswara Rao, Koyi Koteswar Rao, J. Goutham, Chitturu Sreenu, Khader Moinuddin, A. K. Prabhakar, Puligujji Suresh, Krishna, Madhavi, Devakumari and others would take part in the meeting to be held on the grounds of the Meela Chandraiah Memorial (MCM) Degree College from 5 p.m. onwards. Referendum callMr. Rao, who hogged the limelight by calling for a referendum on his performance as the sarpanch of Alagadapa in Miryalaguda mandal in August 2003, is holding the meet to mark the first referendum on Telangana he held on November 1, 2006. Asked why he didn’t invite the leaders such as T.G.Venkatesh, Harirama Jogaiah and Lagadapati Rajagopal, Mr.Rao said, “First of all, we would like to know the feelings of poets and other social activists on our long pending demand. Plans are on cards to organise a meeting on the Telangana issue in Vijayawada in a big way. It would be like a democratic discussion.” Though the local TRS workers have been working hard to make the programme a success, leaders of all parties are invited for the meeting, Mr. Rao, who undertook padayatra for 270 kilometers in the district in January, maintained. The organizers arranged cultural programmes of Dappu Ramesh and Ajay troupes.
