Oommen Chandy Thiruvananthapuram: Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy on Wednesday alleged that the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was misusing the police and politicising the force, besides extending all administrative support to its feeder organisations such as the Students Federation of India (SFI) to indulge in violence. Pledging to fight the cult of political violence while inaugurating a hunger stir organised by the District Congress Committee (DCC) here against violent campus politics, Mr. Chandy said the law and order situation was precariously poised with the credibility and impartiality of the police force under a cloud. The SFI is able to run a violent campaign under the shade of power. The government has not come forward to conduct an impartial inquiry into the Changanassery NSS Hindu College incidents that led to the death of an assistant sub-inspector. KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala said that communal forces were taking roots on campuses owing to the SFI’s politics of violence. Mr. Chandy and Mr. Chennithala extolled the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s contribution to the nation, leading a constant fight against communalism, secessionism, poverty and national unity. DCC president V.S. Sivakumar presided over the function. Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi, the former KPCC president Thennala Balakrishna Pillai and others were present.
