NEW DELHI: Jawaharlal Nehru University has signed a memorandum of understanding with Helmholtz Association of National Research Centres Germany for cooperation in the field of health research. Both JNU and HGF have expressed their desire to advance development of cooperation in the field of health sciences with special emphasis on international research and exchange of scientists and researchers between the two institutions. The Special Centre for Molecular Medicine at JNU will be involved in the cooperation. An addendum to this MoU was signed by JNU, HGF and the Indian Council of Medical Research. Infectious diseases“The Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research [HZI] and JNU will be responsible for coordination and facilitation of cooperation between these organisations dealing with research, primarily in the field of infectious diseases,” said an official release. The faculty members from other centres and schools at JNU who are working in these areas will also be associated with this agreement, it added. The MoU was signed on Tuesday by HGF President Jurgen Mlynek, HZI Scientific Director Rudi Balling, ICMR Director-General N. K. Ganguly and JNU Rector Rajendra Prasad who is officiating as Vice-Chancellor in the presence of Union Minister of Science and Technology Kabil Sibal and German Federal Minister for Education and Research Anette Schavan.
