NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday ordered the Special Cell of the Delhi police to produce before it a two-month-pregnant woman whose husband was killed in an encounter with a joint team of the Special Cell and the Uttarakhand police in Hardwar on October 25.
A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice R. S. Sodhi and Justice B. N. Chaturvedi issued the direction on a habeas corpus petition by the father of the woman.
Petitioner Devi Ram, a resident of Hodal in Haryana, submitted that the Special Cell had picked up his daughter, wife of Gurbachan killed in the encounter, from a hotel in Hardwar and had been keeping her in detention since.He submitted that he feared his daughter, Rita, might have been killed by the Special Cell.
The Division Bench also issued a notice to the Special Cell.
