KOCHI: The stand-off between the Vice-Chancellor (in-charge) and a section of the Syndicate members of Cochin University of Science and Technology worsened on Wednesday with the latter informing the Chancellor (Governor) that the Vice-Chancellor was taking unilateral decisions bypassing them. A meeting of the Works Standing Committee held on the campus registered protest at the inordinate delay in holding the Syndicate meet. Six members of the Syndicate including C.M. Dinesh Mani, MLA, directed the university authorities to forward a copy of the minutes of the meeting to the Chancellor, Chief Minister, and Pro-Chancellor for follow-up action. The meeting decided to inform the Governor that the statutory bodies of the varsity had not met for the last several days. Syndicate members pointed out that the Vice-Chancellor had not convened a full-fledged meeting of the Syndicate in the last five months. Many important issues like awarding of degrees and other academic activities were pending. P.J. Thomas, who was given the charge of the Vice-Chancellor (after former Vice-Chancellor P. K. Abdul Azis stepped down), has not relinquished charge after being promoted as Chief Secretary.
