NALGONDA: The fleshy black beauties ferried from Rohtak in Haryana landed at the Nalgonda railway station in the early hours of Wednesday and were distributed among ryots by evening.

“As many as 624 buffaloes were brought here in 39 special wagons of the railways under the ‘Pasukranti Pathakam’ and almost all of them were transported to 21 mandals to distribution,” Joint Director, Animal Husbandry, G. Manjuvani, told The Hindu.

The cattle and calves travelled 72 hours to reach the Nalgonda railway station. The district administration, represented by Joint Collector B. Sridhar, Ms. Manjuvani and others, formally launched the ‘Pasukranti Pathakam’ by breaking coconuts and cutting a green ribbon.

PM’s package

According to the officials, 501 of 624 she-buffaloes are meant for distribution to beneficiaries under Prime Minister’s package.

“The package is designed to help families of ryots, who have committed suicide due to distress. Some vulnerable families have also been included in the package,” Ms. Manjuvani said.

A group of farmers visited Rohtak to select the cattle for the farmers of the district. “We are going to get more consignments to cover the selected beneficiaries,” the Joint Collector revealed.

He asked the farmers to tackle the cattle deftly.

“We have imparted enough training to the beneficiaries in managing the animals,” Ms. Manjuvani said.
