Visakha book fest from today

Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Eighth Visakha Book Festival of Visalandhra Book House will begin at Turner’s Choultry on Thursday. Around 20,000 titles of 50 publishers will be available at the 20-day exhibition.

The exhibition is being conducted according to the changing tastes of readers, catering to every section, Visalandhra Book House Manager P. Yogi told reporters here on Wednesday. Though the sales had been encouraging every year, that was not the only criterion to hold the exhibition, he said. With a view to keeping up the tradition of conducting an exhibition every year, pains were taken to bring all the books from Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore and organize it from November 1 like a festival on the occasion of Andhra Pradesh Formation Day, he said.

Besides books that interest those with a literary bent of mind, several other subjects in demand were introduced. Books on health, bringing up children, personality development, religion, spirituality, interior decoration etc., have find their place.

Literary programmes will be conducted simultaneously in the evening at the venue. Some literary organisations like Sahrudaya Sahithi, Sahitya Surabhi and Arasam were approached and with their co-operation, meeting were scheduled for the evening on some days. The festival will be open from 11 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. every day including Sundays and during festival.
