The bank’s net profit has registered a growth of 24.79 p.c. MANGALORE: Corporation Bank, which has over 900 branches in the country, has set up six biometric ATMs in the country, mainly in rural areas. The bank has the target of installing 25 such ATMs this financial year to carry forward the benefit of technology to rural people, according to a senior bank official. The response to biometric ATMs, which recognise users by their thumb impression, has been encouraging, according to the official. Though very few people were using ATM at Madanthayar on Mangalore-Dharmasthala route, the one set up at Turbhe-Vashi in Navi Mumbai was a hit, he said. Such ATMs have also been installed at Urla in Bhopal, Malur-Yeshwanthpur in Kolar district, Madipukham near Chennai and Medchal in Hyderabad. The bank had the target of installing 25 such ATMs this financial year to carry forward the benefit of technology to rural people, he said. The bank had also been pursuing introduction of the concept of branchless banking in rural areas.The bank had also been active in financial inclusion programme, he added. The bank sources said it had implemented the programme in 1,202 villages covered by its 328 branches. The bank had achieved 100 per cent financial inclusion in Kodagu and Chikmagalur districts, where it was the lead bank, they said. Meanwhile, the gross profit of the bank went up by Rs. 47.78 crore for the half year ending on September 30. For the half year, it stood at Rs. 570.09 crore compared to Rs. 522.31 crore in the corresponding period last year. The bank said in statement that its net profit registered a growth of 24.79 per cent for the half year. The net profit increased to Rs. 338.49 crore compared to Rs. 271.25 crore recorded in the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of Rs. 67.24 crore in absolute terms.
