Low turnout in Goa by-election
Special Correspondent
PANAJI: The by-election to the South Goa Parliamentary constituency on Wednesday recorded a poor voter turnout of around 35 per cent.
Result on Saturday
The voting was peaceful, said the Election Commission officials. The result would be declared on Saturday.
The main contestants, Francisco Sardinha of the ruling Congress and Wilfred Mesquita of the Bharatiya Janata Party, were confident that the low turnout would be in their favour.
The constituency was vacated by Churchill Alemao, who quit the Congress to float his own regional outfit, the Save Goa Front.
