Lok Sabha panel skips discussion on Ronen case

NEW DELHI: The Lok Sabha Privileges Committee met here on Wednesday, but the subject of discussion was not Ambassador to the United States Ronen Sen. It was a case referred to it under the anti-defection law, a member disclosed.

Notices of privilege were moved against Mr. Sen in connection with his “headless chicken[s]” remark during an interview on the debate over the India-United States nuclear deal.

On October 29, Mr. Sen appeared before the Committee and offered an “unqualified” apology.

The Committee is expected to finalise its report around the time of start of the winter session of Parliament on November 15. Committee Chairman Kishore Chandra Deo said the report would be submitted to the Speaker to be placed before the Lok Sabha.

Privilege notices against Mr. Sen were also moved in the Rajya Sabha, where a Committee is looking into the issue. Mr. Sen has been summoned to appear before the committee on November 2.
