No sweat for Hyderabad Globe

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Globe recorded a 5-2 win over State Bank of India in the SAAP Premier League prize money football tournament at the Gymkhana grounds here on Wednesday.

Mika struck in the eighth minute to give Globe an early lead. But Shaikh Zaheer scored the equaliser within two minutes for the SBI.

Soon, Mika was in the scoring act again to give Globe a 2-1 lead at the break.

On resumption, Christopher scored a brace for Globe (4-1) before Prasanjit Banjerjee reduced the margin for SBI (4-2). In the dying minutes, Irfan struck off a solo effort to complete the tally for Globe.

In another match, EME Centre recorded a 2-0 win over BDL with Dharani Dharam scoring in the fourth minute of first-half and Sandeep in the 59th minute of second session.

AG (AP) in last four

Accountant General (AP) scored a 3-1 win over Ameerpet Playground in the quarterfinals of the GHMC open hockey tournament here.

The goal-scorers for the winner were Ibrahim Mohammad (2) and Vijay Kumar while Sharanpal Singh scored the only goal for the loser.

Easy for The Hindu

The Hindu recorded a six-wicket win over NMDC in the APSAACS Cup floodlit cricket tournament, organised by Sports Coaching Foundation (Masab Tank), here.

HMWSSB posts win

HMWSSB scored a 29-run win over IAF in the Airtel Cup A-Institution league cricket championship match here on Wednesday.

The scores: HMWSSB 197 for eight (Ravinder Reddy 54, Sharath Reddy 71) bt IAF 168.

HCA league

The Hyderabad Cricket Association will organise Airtel Cup league in A-2, A-3 Division and A-Institution one-day knock-out championships from November 5 at different venues.

The Airtel Cup inter-schools (under-13) tournament will also commence from November 5 at different grounds.

AP shooters for Nationals

Six shooters from the State — K. Shyam Sunder and N.V. Prasad (0.22 rifle prone), Asher Rauf and Rahul Rao (skeet), G. Thrimurthulu (100m air rifle peep sight) and Wasif Hassan (trap) — qualified for the National championship by virtue of their creditable performances in the pre-national all-India G.V. Mavlankar championship held at Agra.

GVK Group to sponsor

GVK Group of Industries will sponsor the Mumbai and the Hyderabad legs of the Seniors’ (veterans) National tennis tournaments with prize money of Rs. 5 lakh and Rs.7.5 lakh respectively, according to B.S. Krishna Reddy, president of Andhra Pradesh Senior Tennis Players Association.

Krishna Reddy said the Mumbai leg would be held from November 19 under the supervision of industrialist Satish R. Khanna, who is also the president of All India Scouts & Guides.

The Hyderabad-leg will be held from December 3 at the SAAP Tennis Complex here with the qualifying rounds scheduled on December 1 and 2.

Karnataka varsity posts win

Dharwad’s Karnataka University scored a narrow 14-13 win over University of Puducherry in the South-West Zone inter-university handball tournament for men at the Acharya Nagarjuna University at Guntur on Wednesday.

University of Mumbai (I) and Sardar Patel University also registered comfortable victories.

Osmania (Hyderabad) bt Kuvempu University (Shimoga) 22-12.

Sardar Patel (Vidhyanagar) bt J.R.N. Vidyapeeth (Udaipur) 25-8.

University of Mumbai (I) bt H.S. Gaur Vishwa Vidyalaya (Sagar) 22-6.

Karnataka University (Dharwad) bt University of Puducherry (Puducherry) 14-13.
