THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Eight houses were destroyed and six damaged as strong waves continued to pound the Poonthura coast in the city for the second successive day on Wednesday.

Revenue officials led by Krishnakumar, tahsildar, visited the affected areas and took measures to begin reconstruction of the damaged sea wall.

Mr. Krishnakumar said even concrete houses were collapsing under the might of the powerful waves unleashed by the monsoon turbulence.

Rehabilitation

He said the district administration was geared up to rehabilitate families from the vulnerable areas along the coast.

Erosion had not been reported from anywhere else in the city, Revenue officials said.
