KOCHI: The first annual convocation of the National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) will be held on Saturday to hand over degrees to 44 students passing out of the university. Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan will deliver the convocation address on NUALS campus in Kaloor at 10.30 a.m. Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court J.L. Dattu, who is also the Chancellor of the University, will preside over the function and award the degrees. M.A Baby, Minister for Education and Pro-Chancellor, will deliver the special address. Addressing a press meet here on Wednesday, Vice-Chancellor in-charge and executive council member N. Narayanan Nair said the degree of BA LLB (Hons) will be awarded to the first batch that joined in 2002. Mr. Balakrishnan, who is also the Visitor to NUALS, will award the C.K. Sivasankara Panicker Memorial Gold Medal for the best law student and V.R. Krishna Iyer Foundation Gold Medal for the best Constitutional Law student. As part of the convocation, the executive council of the University will meet at 9.30 a.m. the same day.
