Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said here on Wednesday that the government had decided to procure coconut at Rs.4 a coconut. Briefing presspersons after the weekly Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister said Kerala Kerakarshaka Sahakarna Federation Ltd (Kerafed) will be the nodal agency for the procurement and the government will provide a subsidy of 80 paise a coconut. The target is to procure 4 crore coconuts. He said the Cabinet had approved the proposal for the formation of Kerala Medical Services Corporation for procurement and distribution of medicines and medical equipment for government hospitals. It will be a company fully owned by the government. Mr. Dinesh Aurora will head the new corporation. The authorised capital of the State Backward Classes Development Corporation will be increased from Rs.50 crore to Rs.100 crore. The terms of reference for the consultancy for development of the Azhickal port will be revised. Replying to questions, the Chief Minister said the Cabinet had not discussed the demand for a CBI [Central Bureau of Investigation] inquiry into the killing of the assistant sub-inspector of police M.C. Elias at Changanassery recently, as there was no need for that.
