Lands acquired for urban housing through consent awards
HYDERABAD: In an immediate response to Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s outburst against bureaucratic delays at the first day of the Collectors’ conference, the Revenue Department on Wednesday issued the necessary order providing for a hike in compensation up to 200 per cent for the lands being acquired for urban housing through consent awards.
The order, issued by Principal Secretary, Revenue (Land Acquisition) M. Samuel, states that the District Level Negotiation Committees, headed by district Collectors, is now “empowered to enhance the compensation payable to land owners up to 200 per cent” where necessary, under consent awards.
Dr. Reddy, while reviewing Indiramma housing , received the feedback from Collectors that land acquisition in municipalities and corporations had become difficult as the land available in urban areas was limited, therefore, commanding a higher value.
Probe sought
He ordered a hike in the compensation which till then was allowed up to 50-100 per cent, by 200 per cent to make land acquisition easy. But he found that his order did not reach the Collectors even after two months and sought an inquiry into the delay to fix responsibility.
