New Delhi: The former U.S. Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger, on Wednesday asked India not to have energy ties with Iran, which is facing a standoff with the U.S. over its nuclear programme.
Mr. Kissinger conveyed this to Petroleum Minister Murli Deora at a meeting, during which the India-U.S. nuclear deal issue also figured. The comments assume significance as Washington is opposed to India going ahead with the Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline project as it views Tehran a “rogue state,” which should be isolated.
India has maintained that it would take such decision keeping in view its interests. — PTI
