Rizwanur case: CBI questions Ashok Todi

Special Correspondent

KOLKATA: Sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday questioned Kolkata businessman Ashok Todi, against whom a case of murder has been registered by the agency, probing the death of his son-in-law Rizwanur Rahman.

The body of the computer graphics teacher was found near the rail track near here on September 21, weeks after he married Priyanka Todi — a marriage to which the businessman was allegedly opposed.

On the interrogation of Mr. Todi here, CBI Joint Director Arun Kumar said, “We have asked him everything — from the date of the marriage to September 21.”

For the second consecutive day, a sub-inspector was also questioned. Mr. Arun Kumar said the CBI team, which has already questioned Priyanka and her mother, was hopeful of concluding its investigations and submitting its report well within the two-month deadline set by the Calcutta High Court.

The agency is yet to issue notice to the former city Police Commissioner, Prasun Mukherjee, for interrogation. He is one of the five police officers who were transferred by the West Bengal government in the wake of suspicions over their involvement in the events leading to Rahman’s death.

The CBI summoned Snehasish Ganguly, elder brother of cricketer Sourav Ganguly, for questioning. Mr. Snehasish Ganguly is believed to have introduced Mr. Todi’s brother to Mr. Mukherjee prior to Rahman’s death.

Trinamool Congress MLA Javed Khan, who represents the area where the Rahman family lives, was also interrogated.
