CHENNAI: PSBB K.K. Nagar defeated ST. John’s IRS 49-22 in the boys’ category of the CBSE Cluster V basketball tournament here on Wednesday.

Subramanian-Vijay pair triumphs

L. Subramanian and D. Vijay won the T. Nagar Social Club Open Pairs bridge event held on Tuesday with a score of 63.37 per cent sitting East-West. Balagurunathan and G. Thirumurthy won in the North-South direction with a score of 59.36 per cent.

Other results: North-South: 2. P.S. Santhanam and V. Krishnan 58.14 per cent; 3. S. Raghuramani and R. Kalyan 57.29 per cent.

East-West: 2. Mrs. Sherien Ryan and Mrs. Lakshmi Chari 61.63 per cent; 3. S. Kailasam and T.M. Suri 59.73 per cent.
Vijay Anand scalps four

V. Vijay Anand (four for 18) enabled Modern SSS edge DAV (Mogappair) by two runs in the TNCA-Boost city schools under-17 cricket tournament for the C. Ramaswamy Trophy held here recently.

The scores: St. Bede’s ‘B’ 79 for four in 16 overs (Vinay Gupta 27) lost to Vidya Mandir ‘A’ 80 for two in 14.4 overs (Anirud Kasthuri 36 n.o., Hari Krishnan 28 n.o.); Modern SSS 122 for nine in 28 overs (R. Anand 46 n.o.) bt DAV (Mogappair) 120 for eight in 28 overs (A. Srinivas 46 n.o., R. Nilesh 28, V. Vijay Anand four for 18).
Inter-school hockey

St. Paul’s RC, registered with the Chennai Hockey Association, will conduct the South India inter-school hockey tournament from November 2 to 6 at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium.

The league-cum-knockout tournament, in its sixth year, features eight teams from Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Prem, Girish advance

Prem Prakash and R. Girish entered the semifinals of the senior billiards event in the Abirami Mall TNBSA State-ranking tournament here on Wednesday.

Prem Prakash (CBA) defeated M.C. Manoj (MCC) 687-582 in a round-robin league match.

Kavitha felicitated

S. Kavitha, the vice-captain of the women’s kabaddi team that won the Asian championship gold medal, was felicitated by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi at Madurai. The Chief Minister presented Kavitha with an award of Rs. 5 lakh.

Kavitha, who hails from Madurai, works in Tamil Nadu Police, A.P. Range, Madurai camp at Tiruchi.

The Indian women’s team had triumphed in the second Asian championship held in Iran in October.
Good show by TN

Tamil Nadu performed creditably at the AIFF under-13 girls’ football festival organised by the Orissa Football Association at Bhubaneshwar from October 22 to 31, topping all competitions and winning the Fair Play Trophy.

M. Sandhiya was adjudged the best goalkeeper.
