ANANTAPUR: Minister for Panchayati Raj J.C. Diwakar Reddy has assured the farming community of the district that the State Government has been taking measures to ensure a remunerative price to the groundnut production. The district is poised to achieve highest groundnut production this year compared to the last 15 years. The crop cutting experiments conducted so far had put the average yield at about 15 bags per acre (600 kgs), he said while speaking after hoisting the national flag as part of the State Formation Day celebrations here on Thursday. The Government had earlier supplied 5.24 lakh quintals of groundnut seed with subsidy apart for the alternative crops. Timely rainsSufficient and timely rains had many irrigation tanks brimming with water this year and the district appeared to be covered with green carpet with the good crop condition. Recollecting the sacrifice of Potti Sreeramulu for formation of separate State for the Telugu speaking people the minister said that the real tribute to such leaders would be keeping the State in the forefront of development. He also stressed the need for implementation of the official language in the administration for better results. Telugu was the second largest spoken language in the country and the objective of language-based states would be fulfilled only when the local language was implemented at all levels. Stating that the Government was committed to construct houses for all poor under the Indiramma scheme he noted that 80,000 out of 1,25,334 houses sanctioned in the phase one were completed so far and the remaining were in different stages of progress. In the second phase another 2,19,577 houses were sanctioned. He also detailed several other welfare schemes being implemented in the district. Zilla Parishad Chairperson T. Kavitha, District Collector N. Sridhar, and several others participated.
