KOZHIKODE: Registration is in full swing for the eighth edition of The Hindu Young World Quiz-07, which will be held at the Tagore Centenary Hall in the city on Saturday. Following requests from many places, it has been decided to allow spot registration at the venue of the competition. Sport registration starts from 1 p.m. on Saturday As many as 450 students representing 225 teams from schools in Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram and Palakad districts have already registered. The competition is open to students from classes six to nine. Teams of two students each can participate in the competition. Each school can send a maximum of three teams. Entry cards have been sent to schools, which should fill and send them to the local office of The Hindu in order to participate in the competition. For participants who register at the venue, entry cards will be issued at the venue itself. The participants would have to produce certificate from school principal/headmaster at the time of spot registration, The competition will get under way at 2 p.m. with a written preliminary round to select six teams from the participants for the second and final round. The finalist from among them will be eligible to participate in the all-India finals. The venue of the all-India finals has been shifted fromVisakhapatnam to Chennai. PostponedThe regional round of the quiz, which was to be held in Chennai on October 29, had to be postponed owing to incessant rain. Now, both the regional round and the all-India finals will be held in the Kamaraj Aragam at Teynampet on December 3, the former at 9.30 a.m. and the latter at 2 p.m. The Hindu will meet the travelling, lodging and boarding expenditure of the teams selected for the finals and one accompanying parent or teacher from various centres to Chennai. For the regional winners, the first prize is Rs.8,000, the second Rs.6,000and the third Rs.4,000. The prize money will be double that for the national winners. There will be several other prizes in cash and kind at both the regional and the national levels for the participants and the audience. The competition is being organised in 12 other centres, including two more in Kerala. The other centres in Kerala are Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi. The sponsorsThe Amity University is the national title sponsor for the competition. Tara Talcum powder and Lotte Booproo are the associate sponsors. The other sponsors at the national level are GM Pens, Penguin, Encyclopaeida Britannica, State Bank of Travancore, Cycle Brand Agarbathis, Vizag SteelPlant, Tourism Malaysia and Extramarks.com. Dabur-Real Mango is the beverage sponsor. The event managers are Quizwalahs.Nutrifud Cakes and Vijayalaxmi Cashew Co. are the State-level sponsors. G-TEC Computer Education is the regional sponsor for the YW Quiz at Kozhikode.
