Krishnagiri: A team of district supply officials seized 220 bags of rice worth Rs.1.49 lakh meant for supply under the public distribution system, which was being smuggled in a lorry at Bargur near here on Thursday. Acting on a tip-off, a team was conducting vehicle checks on Bargur-Tirupathur Road when they intercepted a lorry. On inspection, it was found that the lorry was on its way to Bangarapet for sale and subsequent polishing in the open market. The lorry driver, Ilango (35), of Pappireddipatti, was arrested. In another incident a team seized 250 bags of rice worth Rs.1.50 lakh, which was being smuggled in a lorry at Singarapettai. A case has been registered.
